Over the last 20 years I have been both an employer and an employee in many different businesses. And it seems to me that the challenges are much the same across all businesses.

Without wanting to simplify things too much, managers want to make their businesses more profitable and have a minimum of employee related challenges.

For employees they want to be rewarded and acknowledged for good performance, and they want to avoid discovery of poor performance.

It is no secret that life is largely about communication. If you want someone to do something for you then you have to communicate. If you are having a challenge that you want to overcome then you need to communicate.

If you want to improve the quality of your life then you need to look at improving the quality of your communication. Most conflict in life comes from a communication malfunction.

Persuasion Skills

Getting someone to do what you want without conflict is a vital skill in today's business environment. Customer relations, human resources, and management are all about persuasion.

One of the things I credit with improving my skills in this area is NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). NLP is about understanding why we do what we do and why other people do what they do.
